Abstract: Activated carbon was prepared from cocos nucifera shells using chemical activation for Pb2+ adsorption. Thermal Regeneration study was carried out on the spent Carbon. Recovered adsorbent was then used for the adsorption of Lead (Pb2+) from simulated lead solution (effluent) at 60,120, 180, 240, 300 and 360 minutes interval following AAS runs. Adsorption of Pb2+ using derived powdered activated carbon gave high removal efficiency than that of the regenerated carbon with %RE of 82.95, 73.85, 94.31 and 81.24% at time 60, 120, 300, and 360 respectively. Comparative study was based on both coefficient of determination (R2) and kinetic adsorption studies. Data obtained from the analysis followed the pseudo second order kinetics (R2 of 0.963). The rate constant for the adsorption of Pb2+ onto Derived and Regenerated PAC is as low as 0.0048 mgg-1mm-1 and 0.0007mgg-1mm-1 respectively. The intraparticle diffusion as verified mode of transport has R2 value of 0.959.
