| Abstract: | The principal aim of the present study is to enrich our knowledge of the floral diversity in the Petrified Forest Protected Area in Cairo and identify the pressures of human activities that threaten the conservation of vegetation cover. Based on field surveys that were carried out from 2018 to 2023, 45 wild plant species representing 25 families were recorded and identified in the area. The area exists only as a paper park, lacks effective management capacity and is unlikely to achieve successful conservation in its current status. The objective of the proposed plan is to protect the natural vegetation cover along with its underlying ecological structure and supporting ecosystem processes, and promote environmental education. |
