Abstract. Ammonia is present naturally in surface water. It is produced largely by deamination of organic nitrogen – containing compounds and by hydrolysis of urea. In general, direct manual determination of law concentrations of ammonia is confined to drinking water, clean surface or groundwater. The present work is a case study about ammonium, content determination in samples from river Mureş (Arad city). The study purpose to see the pollution on the stream. Ammonium (NH4+) concentration was quantified using a spectrometric method using the spectrophotometer UV-VIZ SPECORD 50, and the detection limit goes to 0,033 mg/l.
