CATENARY VALLEYS FROM THE OAŞ MOUNTAINS

Autori: Cornel Faur

Abstract. Unlike the other volcanic relief units, the Oaş Mountains don’t represent a compact and unitary mountaneous relief, but a relief of separate hilloks by depressionary areas which occupy a surface larger than the higher relief. Overall, they are formed by a main peak oriented north-west, south-east-wards alog the border with Ukraine between the Tisa valley and the Turului plain. Out of the Someş Plain there go, eastwards along the main valleys: Tarna, Bătarci,. Turţ, Tur, Palna, prolongations of the plain relief intoi the mountaineous unit. These valleys separate the main eruptive units being, especially the Lechinţa valley, eminently catenary.
